This is from our wedding website:

Travellers Information and Packing Suggestions
Below please find useful information regarding travelling. Along with airline policies, and required identification, we thought it would be useful to compile a suggested packing list to follow when packing. Please note that as indicated in the suggested clothing packing list, we are asking all guests to dress appropriately for the wedding.

Required Identification and Important Paperwork
Passport*
Medical Insurance Card (Info/Traveling Card)*
E-ticket or Plane Ticket*
VISA* or Mastercard* (as issued from a Canadian Financial Institution – Note: American Express not accepted)
Driver’s License* (this is required if you intend to rent any type of motorized vehicle)
Cash (Canadian)
Information list of contact information and contact phone numbers at home

* make copies of these documents, leave a copy in your suitcase, in your carry on and leave a copy with a contact in Canada that could fax it to you should you require.

Information/Identification Not Required
Birth Certificate – your passport is sufficient
Debit Card – not accepted in Cuba, you may use it at Duty Free in Canada though
Health Card – you are covered with your traveler’s medical insurance

Why a Packing List?
When travelling to Cuba we have some tried and true strange items that we like to take along for the week (or two). Highlights of these strange items are as follows:

Wet Naps/ Baby Wipes/ Hand Sanitizer – we carry these with us at all times when off and on the resort. Some bathrooms you will visit in Cuba will actually charge you by the square for toilet paper (no kidding), and few (none) will have soap and paper towels for hand washing – these items are a must!
Leave in Conditioner/ Really Good Conditioner – if you have long hair and plan on swimming in the ocean or in the pool often, this is a must – the ocean will tangle your hair beyond belief!
Pringles – treats like this are really quite expensive in Cuba, and their version just isn’t as tasty!
Gatorade Powder / Crystal Light Singles – on a hangover day, Chad loves his Gatorade – simply mix with purified water from the bar – ta da!
Vinegar - if you know Amy, this is a given – enough said

From personal experience having lost everyting in South America, I always send myself an email with:
-my passport & birth certificate scanned
-the numbers of my credit cards with the telephone numbers of the company in case they need to be canceled (they always print the telephone number for lost or stolen cards on the back of the card...not so helpful)
-the information of my contacts (if your passport is stolen or lost you have to basically fill out a new application with your references on them, your addresses for the last 5 years etc.)
-a copy of my e-tkt or travel itinterary

You can pretty much access your email from anywhere in the world, so all of these things are in safe keeping.

Also from personal experience, never carry your birth certificate and passort, when all you need is your passport! If you lose both, you're prtty much screwed!

not sure if this was mentioned...call your credit card company to let them know you're traveling out of the country.

I'm a dork, but if I'm travelling & plan to send postcards then I pre-make address labels for everyone I'm planning on sending them to & bring 'em with me. Then it's just peel & stick - saves a lot of time if you're sending a bunch.

Jezz

PS - I also did this with MY address when I went to wedding shows so I didn't have to fill in a billion contest entry forms while I was there. Just stuck a label on the ballot & off I went.

This is an awesome tip everyone.

I went to europe for the first time in April and had to use a 2nd card because the first was declined (2nd was the one i'd booked the hotel on so it was ok) then had a voicemail on my cell like 5 hours later from the credit card fraud unit advising of the number to call (and number for collect call if i was out of county) once i figured out how to call collect it worked out fine, but lesson is learned.

If leaving the country (other than US) call VISA and have them put a note on the account.
